THE DEVOURED FATE

Some wounds do not belong to one person alone. They are carried by families, communities, and entire nations, quietly passing from one generation to the next. The Devoured Fate was born from this reflection.

Growing up as a Congolese and later living as a refugee, I have witnessed how history can seem to repeat itself. Promises of peace give way to new conflicts, hope is interrupted by uncertainty, and each generation inherits questions left unanswered by the one before it. This painting emerged from my desire to understand those recurring cycles and the resilience required to live through them.

Created through the symbolic language of Dotism, the composition embraces rough textures, layered surfaces, and expressive gestures that evoke both a scarred landscape and the human spirit that continues to endure within it. The flowing red forms speak of lives marked by violence and loss, yet they also remind us that memory cannot be erased. Every layer becomes part of a larger story about survival, dignity, and the enduring search for freedom.

Within The World of Circles, fate is not presented as something fixed or inevitable. Instead, it is revealed as a pattern that societies can unknowingly repeat until they choose to confront it. The figure standing within the composition becomes both witness and survivor, carrying the emotional weight of history while refusing to surrender hope for renewal.

Although inspired by the experience of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, The Devoured Fate speaks to a universal human condition. Across the world, people continue to inherit conflicts, inequalities, and histories they did not create. The painting invites viewers to reflect on their own relationship with memory, justice, and responsibility, asking whether the future must always remain captive to the past.

Ultimately, The Devoured Fate is not simply about suffering. It is about the courage to remember, the determination to heal, and the belief that every generation possesses the power to reshape the story it inherits.
